What are REITs?
A Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) is a company that owns, operates, or finances income-generating real estate. These companies manage portfolios of high-value properties and mortgages, leasing them out and collecting rent. The rental income is then distributed to shareholders as dividends.
REITs provide investors with an opportunity to participate in large-scale, high-value real estate projects without directly owning the property. This allows them to earn regular dividend income while also benefiting from potential capital appreciation.
Both large and small investors can invest in REITs. Smaller investors can pool their funds with others to gain access to big-ticket commercial real estate projects. Properties held under REITs can include data centres, infrastructure facilities, healthcare units, apartment complexes, and more.
