What is the post-closing market session?
The post-closing market session for the equity cash segment is conducted on the exchange from 3:40 p.m.-4:00 p.m. During this period, only market orders are accepted.
- All orders are executed at the closing price established by the exchange at 3:30 p.m.
- Orders placed between 3:30 p.m.-3:40 p.m. will be rejected by the exchange.
For example, the closing price of HDFC is determined by the exchange at 3:30 p.m. to be Rs. 2,500. Hence, between 3:40 and 4:00 p.m., you will be able to place market orders to buy/sell HDFC at the market price, i.e., Rs. 2,500.
