A block deal is the execution of large trades through a single transaction without disadvantaging either buyer or seller.
Trading Hours
Stock exchanges may set trading hours between 08:45 AM and 05:00 PM.
Block Deal Windows
Morning Block Deal Window | 08:45 AM to 09:00 AM |
Afternoon Block Deal Window | 02:05 PM to 02:20 PM |
Reference Price
Morning Window | Previous day closing price of the stock |
Afternoon Window | Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) of trades executed between 01:45 PM and 02:00 PM. |
Price Range
Orders must be within +3% of the applicable reference price in the respective windows.
Order Size
Minimum order size for block deals is INR 25 Crores. Trades must result in delivery and cannot be squared off or reversed.
Information Dissemination
Stock exchanges must disclose details of block deals (e.g., scrip name, client name, quantity, price) to the public on the same day after market hours.
Settlement Cycle
Provisions apply to both T+1 and optional T+0 settlement cycles.
