What is an After Market Order (AMO)? How can I place an AMO?

The equity market is open from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays. For many of you, trading/investing in the stock market may not be a primary profession and you could be busy.

After Market Orders (AMO) are used to place orders post-market hours, to trade on the next trading day. As the name suggests, these orders can be placed post-market hours. The order placement time varies segment-wise.

SegmentTiming
Equity Cash (NSE, BSE)
4:15 PM - 8:45 AM
Equity F&O
4:15 PM - 8:45 AM
Currency (NSE)
5:15 PM - 8:45 AM
NSE MF

On holidays, they can be placed at any time; the above-mentioned timings are not applicable.

Important points:

1. There is no AMO order type on our trading platforms. Orders placed during the given hours will be considered an AMO.

2. Orders placed after market hours shall be sent to the exchange when the market opens on a best-effort basis, subject to required validations. Geojit shall not be responsible for any delay or non-execution of such orders.
 3. AMOs with 'Market' as the price condition shall have priority over orders with 'Limit' as the price condition. They are allowed for all product types (Cash/Intraday/BTST/MTF), except bracket orders.

4. To place an AMO, you will be required to accept its Terms & Conditions during order placement. Once saved, the order will be sent to the exchange when the market opens.

5. AMOs can be placed by non-PoA/DDPI clients. However, it is important to note that for sell AMOs, non-PoA/DDPI clients will have to ensure that the concerned shares are unblocked via DIS/eDIS. If not done before the order is sent to the exchange, the order will be rejected.

6. AMO order placement is subject to sufficient buying power/holdings being maintained in your account. At the time of AMO order entry, your buying power/holdings are not validated. Instead, it is validated when the market opens and the order is sent to the exchange. If the order is rejected, it can be viewed in the OMS Rejection Report.

7. When an AMO is placed it is shown in the AMO/GTD order book under 3 statuses:
  • Saved- Saved in the order book
  • Queued- Orders are queued after 8:45 a.m. to be sent to the exchange
  • Sent- Orders are sent to the exchange after the market opens

8. Till an order is Sent, it is only shown in the AMO/GTD order book.

9. When the order is under Sent status, it will show in the open order book as well.

10. After 8:45 a.m., (when an order is in Queued or Sent status in the AMO/GTD order book),  AMOs cannot be modified or cancelled from the AMO/GTD order book. They can only be modified or cancelled once the order comes to the open order book.

11. AMO can only be placed from the client's end.
